Malena, Oli, and Samu

After publishing and selling thousands of copies of my personalized books over the years, I often felt a little disappointed that I had not been able to create one for my own grandchildren, since they were not yet born. Saving Nature gave me that opportunity.

Along with Buku, Malena, Oli (for Oliver), and Samu (for Samuel) are the protagonists of Saving Nature. I had lots of fun including them in the story and the illustrations, and they were all very excited about it.

At the time, they were also eagerly waiting to be together again. Samu, who lives in the Cayman Islands, had often visited Toronto before COVID, but during that period they had not seen each other for quite a long time.

They all missed one another, and it made me happy to bring them together in Saving Nature.

I am a very proud iaia, which means grandma in Catalan. With my writing and illustrations, I like to pay tribute not only to my grandchildren, who I love dearly, but to my own iaias and iaius, for the stories they told and for encouraging my imagination.
